Different Delivery Methods for Different Illnesses and Symptoms

delivery methods illnesses and symptoms

Different delivery methods to a patient’s system vary for the cannabis to become effective in the body. Therefore, the form you are take your cannabis medication in effects how quickly it will work and how long it will last.

Tinctures can take anywhere from a few minutes to 1.5 hours to have noticeable effects, and can last for up to 4-6 hours.

Capsule forms can take up to 1.5 to 2 hours to have noticeable effects, and last for approximately 4-6 hours.

Edibles, chocolate, gummies, etc. can take up to 1.5-2 hours to have noticeable effects, and lasts for up to 10 hours.

And inhalation, whether it is vaping or inhaling the actual flower, can have noticeable effects within minutes and lasts in your body for approximately 2 hours.

So, which delivery method is right for you?

If your doctor hasn’t guided you in this area, or if you are looking for information to discuss with your physician, here are a few thoughts that you might want to consider and discuss:

If you are using cannabis for neurological or mental health purposes: tinctures are easy to dose and the most efficient way to affect change in the CNS. If you are using cannabis for inflammation: cellular repair and aiding in the treatment of cancer from the rib cage and up. Remember, tinctures can be more effective and they can last up to 4-6 hours.

If you are using cannabis for gastrointestinal disorders and cancer from the rib cage to the bottom of your torso, having your cannabis in capsule form is the more efficient method of getting your medicine to the area that you want to affect. Capsules also last approximately 4-6 hours.

If you want to sleep at night, tinctures and edibles are your longest lasting options. I do have a precaution with edibles. Only get an edible in the dosage that you need. In other words, if you need 5mg to sleep, don’t get an edible for 10mg and cut it in half. The medicine may not be equally dosed throughout the edible, and you may end up with too much medicine in one half and not enough in the other. If you are taking edibles, please start with a low dosage and slowly acclimate your body. If you take too much THC in your cannabis your heart may start to palpitate. Remember, edibles can last up to ten hours.

Many people will inhale their medicine to get immediate relief or relaxation. If you inhale your medicine to go to sleep at night, you might want to consider one of the other delivery methods to extend the duration of the effectiveness of the inhaled medicine. Taking half of the milligrams of the dosage for a tincture or edible, and inhaling the other half of the dose, may be a way of getting an immediate effect to help with relaxing or to fall asleep and achieve a long-term effect of staying asleep.
